    Preach.

I can’t even face how long it’s been since I tumblr’d a thing. Luckily, the world has Mrs. Jess Charlton to save the day! -b

  3. Guys, I can’t even begin to describe the glory that was BoatParty.Biz. It was my first real vacation in over a year, and included a visit to a tropical paradise with gorgeous beaches, endless brass (because boats), stunning lightening storms, my first ever piña colada, and so many new friends. So many new friends!! I had to miss MaxFunCon this year, but the boat party was an incredible replacement. Definitely signing up for the next voyage! -b

  4. Should I start a blog about Tyra’s wigs.

  5. I’m in Boston visiting some friends prior to the Gordon Research Conference on Microbial Population Genetics! Today we went to the Harvard Museum of Natural Science, which has an amazing collection of preserved specimens (in jars) and also WHALE BONES (not pictured above). Check out that crazy sea monster & my wonky button’d sweater!-b

  6. I’m off to Evolution 2013 in Snowbird, Utah! I kind of doubt that Snowbird is a real city, but it looks like we’re staying at a fancy resort, so I’m feeling kind of psyched (does the Cliff Lodge remind you at all over the Overlook Hotel?). Also the Evolution conference last year was a blast, and I met a ton of awesome science people (both heroes and normies) and made some new friends. And as we all know, new friends are the best! -b

  7. Pretty great for a short film advertising a clothing line. Apparently Lena Dunham likes Wes Anderson (SHOCK). -b

  8. I made a cake for my friend Kristen’s birthday that features her model organism, Tetrahymena thermophila! Sprinkles work surprisingly well for making dual nuclei & cilia. T. thermophila is a microscopic eukaryote; the crazy thing about these guys is that they have seven sexes, which I think makes them super interesting (but not as interesting as E. coli). -b

  9. Super Snack Bar in Venice, CA.

PS My friend David Malki! & his lovely wife frequent a super quaint diner/bowling alley in Venice; I got to go for dinner last summer. It’s really neat, partially because it feels like a practical joke! The diner is straight up vintage (but you can get a nice, fresh salad) & you could easily miss the door that lead you to a standard, neon-clad bowling alley. It’s no boutique cafe, but I think you guys are with me on this. -b
